What size images should I upload into ArtCloud?

Our recommended practices for uploading images

Here at ArtCloud, we appreciate the need for the best looking images. Here's a quick guide on the best practices for image sizing in ArtCloud!

What size should I upload my image?

We always recommend uploading images at the largest size possible - whether uploading into an artwork record or uploading an Artist's profile image. The bigger, the better! ArtCloud allows users to upload images of up to 20 MB into the platform. The reason you want to upload the largest file possible is that ArtCloud will transform (in platform) whatever image you're uploading to make it useful for displaying on your website, for printing tearsheets or pricelists, and even emailing clients.

What file format should I upload?

We accept the following file formats for images: .JPG, .PNG, .SVG, and .GIF.

The most common file format for uploading images is .JPG. This is a super accessible file format used across various platforms. .PNG is also a common and accessible file format used across various platforms. The main difference between the two is that .JPG is used for more photographic, detailed visuals, and .PNG is used for flat digital art, like logos or icons. The .SVG file format is for vector files, commonly used for typography or logos, and the .GIF file format is for movable images. Although ArtCloud does accept .SVG and .GIF file formats, it's only accepted in certain areas on the platform. They are not widely adopted.

When uploading artwork images or Artist profile images, we recommend uploading in the .JPG format. When uploading logos or icons, we recommend uploading in a .PNG or .SVG file format.

How does ArtCloud measure image size in the Website Builder?

When you upload your image into a widget on the Website Builder, ArtCloud will display the image in its original size. However, if you need to adjust this, you're offered the ability to change your Image Height, Image Width, Max Image Height, & Max Image Width within the widget.

Max Image Height & Max Image Width

Adjusting just one Max Image Height or Max Image Width figure will adjust this image container for you, evenly. For instance: you can change just one figure, either Max Image Height or Max Image Width and the image will maintain its aspect ratio. These fields are limits to how large/small an image will appear. Meaning, you can change these and the system will read that you're adjusting the limit in which to display the image without actually making changes to your image.

In the example below, I've only adjusted the Max Image Width from 580px to 300px, and the entire image became smaller yet kept the same shape without stretching:

Image Height & Image Width

If you're changing the Image Height and Image Width of the image in question, you're making actual changes to the image itself, possibly causing stretching or warping of the image. If you change just one figure (let's use width for example again), this will warp the image to that specific width while honoring the original height provided:

Please note: If you adjust the height and width of the image, please make sure to maintain the aspect ratio. For instance, if your image is measuring 200px wide and 400px tall, you will want to keep this even by changing both height and width: 100px wide and 200px tall or 600px wide and 1200px tall.

It's also super important to remember that when you make any adjustments in the widget, in order for changes to occur, you must make sure to include a unit measurement for the system to read and understand the change you want to occur. ArtCloud measures image size in pixel (px) and percentage (%).

Your image will automatically display a sizing measurement in px.

Changes will not appear if a unit measurement is not included.
