How to switch your Stripe Express account to Stripe Standard

Steps to migrate from a Stripe Express account to Stripe Standard

1. Review and take note of any active invoices or sales that are on a layaway payment plan.

When changing processing account types, any previously stored credit card information will no longer be available. The card information would need to be collected again for processing.

You can gather this credit card information from your customers via the Remote Pay link once Stripe Standard has been integrated.

2. When ready, go to the Integrations tab of Account Settings: https://pro.artcloud.com/#/settings/integrations

1. You will see two options: ArtCloud Stripe Express Payments & Stripe Standard

2. You should also see the ArtCloud Stripe Express Payments toggled on.

To use this integration, you will need a Stripe Standard account.

If you already have one: You can use an existing Stripe Standard account—either one set up with ArtCloud previously or used elsewhere. You’ll know it’s a Standard account if you can log in directly at stripe.com. Log in now to confirm access before starting the transition process below.

If you don’t have one: The transition process will prompt you to create a new Stripe Standard account.

What you will need: Basic business information to complete the setup.

Stripe will verify your legal entity name, legal entity type (such as Sole Proprietor or LLC), tax ID number, and business address. They may ask you to provide official documentation to help us verify these details.

3. First, toggle on the Stripe Standard option.

1. You’ll be guided through Stripe’s onboarding to create a new account or login to your existing account. If you prefer, you can set it up directly at stripe.com.

2. This will be a separate account from your current Express account. Information cannot be shared between the two.

4. Once you complete onboarding, your new Stripe Standard account will connect to ArtCloud, and you’ll be ready to process payments from your account or website.

5. If you use a Stripe Terminal or M2 Reader from ArtCloud, you’ll need to re-register the device to your ArtCloud account. Follow the same steps outlined in the How-To articles below.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is this happening?
ArtCloud is moving all customers from Stripe Express to Stripe Standard. This change gives galleries more control over their finances and Stripe account support.

Do I have to make this switch? Do I have to do this now?
Yes, we are requiring all Stripe Express customers to transition to Stripe Standard account structure as we will no longer support Stripe Express in the near future. Once you begin the transition from Express to Standard, payments through ArtCloud will be paused until you finish setup, so we recommend completing it as soon as possible.

What’s better about Stripe Standard?
You will have direct access to Stripe support, dispute resolution, tax documentation, slightly better rates on some card types, and access to your full financial history and tools within Stripe.

Will I lose access to anything?
No. You’ll keep using your ArtCloud tools and Stripe terminal. You’ll just need to complete the Stripe Standard setup to continue accepting payments.

How long does setup take?
Most galleries complete the process in about 5 minutes.

What are my new processing rates?
Stripe Standard currently quotes standard processing rates for domestic cards at 2.9% + 30 cents. You can find full current Stripe pricing at stripe.com/pricing. ArtCloud does not set or have any control over Stripe published rates. Some galleries have had success negotiating their rates directly with Stripe.

There is a small separate ArtCloud application fee of 0.3% for the maintenance of the API integration with Stripe.
